The Nyakweri Forest from the Air (from March 29, 2015)

Flying over the Nyakweri Forest, one can see the scale of the destruction that threatens this critical habitat. Inside the forest, huge patches of land are being cleared to make charcoal. Trees are essential to the water cycle in the Mara, but as more and more forest disappears into the smoking charcoal kilns, the Mara, its people, and its wildlife, are going to experience even more hardship than they already do. We are hoping that serious action at the county level will be taken to stem the loss of this critical forest.
